Brazilian striker Joelinton has signed for Premier League side Newcastle United from TSG Hoffenheim for a club-record fee believed to be in the region of £40 million, with the 22-year-old agreeing a signing long-term contract with the Magpies.

Joelinton has joined Newcastle United after being on the books of Hoffenheim for four years, with the Brazilian scoring 11 goals in 33 appearances for the German Bundesliga side in the 2018/19 season having spent the previous two seasons on loan at Rapid Vienna.
After signing the deal with Newcastle, Joelinton told the club website that he is delighted to have joined the Premier League club, saying he is aware the club has made a large investment in him and understands the huge responsibility which comes with it.

Joelinton has been handed the number 9 jersey which was previously worn by notable players including Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, who is the Premier League all-time leading goalscorer, as well as Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins.

Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce, also spoke of his happiness at the deal for the club’s new number 9, stating to the club website that Joelinton is a smashing young player who has an exciting time waiting for him at St. James’ Park.

Bruce, who was appointed following former manager Rafael Benitez’s choice not to renew his deal which expired at the end of June, added that Joelinton has everything a modern-day footballer wants which include athleticism and strength, as well as an incredible work rate.
Joelinton could make his Newcastle United debut in the pre-season friendly at Preston North End on Saturday as the club prepares for the coming Premier League season which would open with a home clash against Arsenal.
