Samuel Kalu was finally named in the starting XI after his dehydration issue while in training just days to Nigeria’s first game against Burundi. Villarreal whizkid Samuel Chukwueze who impressed in the first game was again dropped to the bench, this time with Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, while skipper John Mikel Obi and John Ogu returns to the starting XI.
While Mikel started in the first game – a 1-0 win over Burundi, he sat out of Nigeria’s second game against Guinea. Ogu however, would make his first appearance of the competition.
Basically every other member of the team who started in the 1-0 over Guinea retained their place except goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi who kept clean sheets in Nigeria’s first two game. Ahmed Musa again, starts alongside Samuel Kalu on the wings as the Bordeaux man comes in for his first game of the tournament after his dehydration issue just days to kickoff of the tournament.
Paul Onuachu again, sits out of this one too as Odion Ighalo who scored Nigeria’s solitary goal in 1-0 victory over Burundi spearheads the attack.
