Agent confirms World Cup winner may leave PSG to join Ronaldo at Juventus

Legendary goalkeeper and Italian World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon is reportedly considering a return to Juventus where he will link up with Cristiano Ronaldo. He confirmed his exit from French giants Paris Saint-German at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Buffon has won Serie A nine times, including seven in a row

However, the agent of the former Parma goalkeeper Silvano Martina has revealed that a return to the Italian champions Juventus is “just an idea” for now. The goalkeeper, who turned 41 in January, could be set for a return to the Juventus where he made 509 appearances.

Buffon spent 17 years at Juventus after arriving from Parma for a then-world record fee 2001. The Italian legend added five Supercoppa Italia triumphs and four Coppa Italia titles to his collection, while he was a Champions League runner-up on three occasions. Buffon then moved to PSG in 2018, winning the Ligue 1 and Trophee des Champions in his only season with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Uno vicino all’altro.

“PSG told me five months ago that I would be the second goalkeeper next season,” Buffon told Corriere Dello Sport when he announced his decision to leave PSG. “I had plenty of time to think about it and I came to the conclusion that this was not for me, so I gave up a lot of money and a one-year option. Their request was absolutely legitimate, understandable and was an attractive offer.”

“However, at the age of 41, I have this almost physiological need to feel sensations. Emotions translate into energy, dreams, the feeling of being part of something. Today I find myself in a situation like last summer, in an extraordinary state of serenity, in a state of total relaxation where everything is open and it could all end in twelve months or in fifteen days,” Buffon revealed.

The legendary goalkeeper had also implied that he might take some time off before he decides on the next step to take on his career. His agent, Martina has confirmed that there are interests from various clubs across Europe.  “Some good proposals have arrived, but if I don’t have the right motivation I can decide to take a year all for myself, all mine. One year of education,” Buffon concluded.

Reports from Italy have suggested that Buffon is currently negotiating to become Wojciech Szczesny’s understudy before taking up another role at the club after a year. Buffon’s agent confirmed that talks were going on but nothing concrete had been finalized as of yet. Silvano Martina told SportItalia: “For now, it’s just an idea.”

The transfer is likely to be completed once Juventus move on their current back-up Mattia Perin, who has interest from Roma and Sevilla. Buffon won nine Serie A titles at Juventus including seven in a row between 2012 and 2019, making 656 appearances. He played 25 times for PSG last season and helped the club win their second successive Ligue 1 crown.
