But there’s a little problem for the Liverpool fans who will be hoping for their darling club to win the trophy once again next season, to make it back to back just like Real Madrid. Klopp said winning the Champions League is the “best night of our professional lives”. It is their first major trophy since Klopp arrived at Anfield in 2015.

The German arrived at the post-match news conference holding a beer. “We’ll celebrate together, we’ll have a sensational night,” he said. “I feel mostly relief, relief for my family. The last six times we flew on holiday with only a silver medal it didn’t feel too cool. “Tonight was a big challenge for both teams to deal with the three weeks with no game. The final is about the result and tonight the boys showed the resilience we needed. I don’t want to explain why we won it, I only want to enjoy that we won it.”

“Tonight is really emotional, but I’m much calmer than I thought,” said Klopp. “It wasn’t important for me to touch the cup. I loved seeing the boys having it and seeing some faces in the crowd. Going to Liverpool tomorrow with something to celebrate is big and I’m really looking forward to that.”

Liverpool started the 2018-19 season as one of the favourites for the Premier League title. Through the entirety of the term, they lived up to the billing and were magnificent. After all, they collected a total of 97 points from 28 games. Incidentally, their tally was the third highest ever in the league.

Unfortunately, though, the 2nd highest tally was also achieved in the same season and Liverpool’s wait for the elusive Premier League trophy found its way into another season. Moreover, they also went out early in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup to Wolves and Chelsea respectively.

Now that Klopp has gotten his hands on the European title, he will want to switch his focus on dominating the domestic league and cups (FA Cup and Carabao Cup). Liverpool are yet to win the Premier League since it’s inception in 1992 with their bitter rivals Manchester United dominating the competition as the most successful team with 13 titles.

The Reds are now European champions but less focus will be on the competition next season as they will want to put an end to their 26 years wait in the league.

One of the reasons Manchester City won all the trophies in England is because of their squad depth, something Liverpool were lacking this season. Klopp literally lost out in the cup competition just because there are no players to cover for his front trio (Salah, Mane, and Firmino) who are the powerhouse of the team.
