Reports: Another Madrid star wants to follow Bale out of Bernabeu

Gareth Bale may not be the only high profile name to leave Real Madrid this summer after reports emerged the club’s captain Sergio Ramos is also considering his future at the club. According to Marca,  the future isn’t clear for Sergio Ramos and the Real Madrid captain is considering his future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos suffered a forgettable season in 2018/19 and the Spaniard has been left to think about what lies ahead for him, with options opening up. El Chiringuito reported, and MARCA have been able to confirm, that he is seriously weighing things up at the moment, and is thinking about moving on to another European destination.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have enquired about his situation, but until now the answer has always been a firm rejection. But things have now changed and he doesn’t know what’s next for him. Those upstairs at the Bernabeu are aware that there may be some movements, but they haven’t been told anything by the player himself of his representatives.

The now infamous eruption in the Madrid dressing room after their Champions League elimination against Ajax appears to have cooled his relationship with the club. Meanwhile, the report has come as little surprise to president Florentino Perez, who met with the club captain 15 days ago.

In a meeting at Ramos’ house which also featured his brother and agent Rene as well as the player’s father, the 33-year-old told Perez that he was seriously considering a summer move. The meeting ended with a one-on-one conversation between captain and president, where Ramos explained clearly to Perez his doubts over continuing next season.

Once the meeting ended, the two parties agreed to continue talks in the following days in order to analyse what is the best decision for both parties. Coach Zinedine Zidane still trusts Sergio Ramos and, until two weeks ago, nobody at Real Madrid believed that the captain, with a contract until June 2021, could leave the club this summer.

In another news, AS are reporting that Liverpool are interested in making a shock swoop for the Spanish international this summer. They also mention Manchester United, Juventus and a Chinese club as potential destinations.

The defender moving to Liverpool would seem incredibly unlikely, for a number of reasons. Even forgetting his recent history with the Merseyside club, he is not the type of signing they would usually opt for.

He is 33-years old, with Jurgen Klopp preferring to sign younger players who have room to grow. His salary would also be a major stumbling block, with his net wage of €12.5million per year well beyond what any other Liverpool player is earning.

Manchester United or Juventus would seem a far more likely destination, but they would also likely be hesitant considering Ramos’ advancing years. Ramos is currently out of Spain and won’t return until he is required to for international duty, having missed each of the last seven LaLiga Santander rounds due to injury.
