Manchester United defender Ander Herrera is using Paris Saint-Germain to get a better contract at the Old Trafford side, France Football suggests.
The Spaniard’s deal at United expires at the end of the season with the club yet to agree a new deal.
He has been linked with a move to PSG ahead of the summer transfer window, but a deal is yet to be done.
The former Athletic Bilbao is reportedly not keen on a move to Paris, but could be using the Ligue 1 champions to get a better deal at United.
Herrera, who is currently receiving £80,000-a-week, wants it increased to £200,000. United have been reluctant to grant his wishes, resulting in the uncertainty regarding his future.
The 29-year-old has been one of United’s best midfielders this term and it will be a big loss if he leaves the Old Trafford side at the end of the season.
He has scored 20 goals and provided 26 assists since he joined United from Bilbao in the summer of 2014. He has made 27 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier is holding out for a switch to Man United in the upcoming summer window, reports say. The Englishman was one of his country’s standout players at the previous World Cup in Russia, but the 28-year-old star has had a mixed campaign for Spurs and looks set to depart the club ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The likes of Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld are also being connected with moves away as manager Mauricio Pochettinho prepares for what promises to be an active transfer window.
Napoli have expressed a strong interest in Kieran and have already lodged a bid to sign the former Burnley defender, with Spurs listening to offers.
However, according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Partenopei’s opening offer of around €18-20m (£15-17m) was turned down.
Tottenham are demanding a sum closer to €35 million (£30 million) for the versatile defender.
The report states that, while Kieran has shown an appreciation for the Italian club, he has ‘given priority’ to Manchester United should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side submit a bid.
Kieran grew up in Bury, Greater Manchester, and would love to see out the twilight years of his professional career in the north west over Italy.
