Ahead of the 2019 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup holding in Ivory Coast, Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby, has unveiled his squad for the competition, with the major decision he has made being to leave out veteran goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi.
Oluehi has been left out of the Super Falcons’ 20-woman squad for the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup, which takes place from this Wednesday, May 8 and will run until May 18. The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who was the heroine when Nigeria won the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana, failed to make the squad due to an injury.
In her place, Dennerby will have to pick from Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ohiaeriaku, and Alaba Jonathan who have been called up to the WAFU Cup squad. The Super Falcons will make their second appearance at the regional tournament and have been drawn against Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso in Group B.
Dennerby is hoping to use the eight-nation regional competition to continue the team’s preparations for the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. Having finished in third place last year, the Super Falcons will depart for Abidjan the Ivory Coast capital city on Tuesday and commence their campaign against Burkina Faso on Thursday.
