According to the Mirror, Manchester United have offered David De Gea a new contract worth 350, 000 per week. The Spain international has just a year left on his deal and has been linked with a move to Paris Saint Germain.
However, United are not willing to let the Spanish number one leave and are ready to offer him a contract worth 350,000 per week. According to reports the 28-year-old only has a week to come to a decision on the eye-watering £350,000-a-week offer, with United keen to sort out his future sooner rather than later.
But there are rumours De Gea wants to earn the same as the club’s current top earner Alexis Sanchez, who takes home a reported £500,000-a-week. De Gea’s current deal expires next summer, so he is now in a position to decide whether to commit to the club or run down the deal and potentially leave on a free transfer.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain are allegedly trying to tempt De Gea away from Old Trafford, and are willing to match the £350,000-a-week wages offer. De Gea has made a number of high-profile mistakes recently, with errors in big games such as against Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the last few weeks.
Nevertheless United are willing to stand behind the player who has been so important to them since he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has won their player of the year award four times.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already promised he will keep his place for the remaining games of the season, despite calls from some supporters to give reserve keeper Sergio Romero an opportunity.
De Gea has often found himself linked with other clubs during his time at Old Trafford, and it was only due to paperwork not being submitted in time that he didn’t move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015. He has started every game for United in the Premier League this season but has only kept seven clean sheets, compared to 18 last season and 14 in the 2016-2017 campaign.
Meanwhile, Juan Mata has reportedly been offered a deal by Premier League side Brighton. The 30-year-old’s deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and Mata is expected to move on as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to revamp a United squad that has struggled in the latter stages of the campaign, following the Norwegian’s appointment on a permanent basis.
Recent reports have heavily linked Mata with a return to Spain with Sport recently claiming that the former Chelsea man is ready to make a return to the country where he made his name with Valencia.
They also added that Atletico are currently leading the race to secure the 2010 World Cup winner’s signature, as Diego Simeone bids to strengthen his squad for a LaLiga title challenge in 2019-20.
However, the Sunday Mirror claims that Brighton, who secured Premier League survival after Cardiff’s loss on Saturday, have offered Mata ‘a one-year deal with option of another season on top’. Solskjaer, who is in talks with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward alongside assistant Mike Phelan, claimed during the week that high-profile players will still want to come to Old Trafford even if they don’t finish in the top four.
And there is an understanding that the Red Devils will look to transform the midfield with the Sunday Mirror adding there is a belief that United need ‘a younger and more dynamic midfield’.
