Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said that he is confident he can finish as the top scorer in the English Premier League this season.
The Gabonese striker made this known after scoring the winner for the Gunners when they faced Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night.
The 29-year-old currently has 18 goals in the league, one behind Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero who both have 19.
Asked if he could go ahead of Salah and Aguero, he said: ‘Yeah, why not? I feel confident and the race is going on. I know it’s a tough battle but I’m confident and will carry on.’
The former Borussia Dortmund forward is level with Liverpool star Sadio Mane who has 18 goals, while Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane both have 17 goals.
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy have 16 and 15 goals respectively.
Aubameyang’s goal against Watford took the Gunners to fourth on the Premier League table, ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea who are in 6th and fifth position respectively.
Arsenal currently have five games to play in the 2018/19 Premier League season. Unai Emery’s side will go away to Wolves and Leicester in two of those five games.
Goals from Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazatte will be crucial in the Gunners’ bid to finish in the top-four. Lacazette currently has 13 goals in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners will have to improve on their away form if they want to solidify their stay in the top-four.
Arsenal will also need to improve on their away record when they face Napoli in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie this Thursday.
