The Reason why Pep Guardiola is not watching the Liverpool vs Chelsea game will baffle you

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and his side may have been focused on Premier League matters early this afternoon but they are now as focused on The Masters 2019 as they are title rivals Liverpool.

That’s according to Guardiola, who has revealed that the team will be watching the finish at Augusta National. Liverpool kicked off against Chelsea shortly after the final whistle at Selhurst Park and can leapfrog City again by beating Chelsea at Anfield.

While some of his players will obviously have a keen eye on Liverpool as the Reds battle to move back to the top of the Premier League by beating Chelsea, Guardiola summed up the squad’s relaxed nature by stating that they will be as focused on the Masters.

Francesco Molinari is leading the way at the Masters this year but legendary golfer Tiger Woods is also in the hunt. When asked if he will be watching the match at Anfield, Guardiola told Sky Sports: “I don’t know, Tiger Woods and Molinari are playing in the Masters so maybe we are going to see both. “Hopefully we can do it (watch both). And hopefully Chelsea can do a good job.”

This reaction probably best sums up how relaxed Guardiola and City are about the title race after again surviving the pressure on Sunday as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 in the capital.

And who can blame Guardiola about wanting to tune into the Masters anyway? Today’s finish could be as close as the title race itself. Two goals from Raheem Sterling helped City to a 3-1 lead against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon – a result which temporarily moves them back to the top of the league.
