Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld could be on his way out this summer to possibly another club in London. North London rivals Arsenal have developed a sudden interest for the Belgian’s signature, and could land the centre-half for just £25 million.
Alderweireld can leave Spurs this summer in a cut-price £25million deal, but the switch must be completed before the final two weeks of he transfer window.
The Belgian remains linked with a move to Old Trafford since Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the club, however, the Red Devils would have to face competition from the Premier League rivals should they decide to make the transfer happen this summer.
A clause in the 30-year-old’s contract means Alderweireld will be available for below his market value, despite Spurs triggering a clause to keep the defender at the club until 2020.
With Arsenal’s qualification for next season’s Champions League in the balance, reports in The Sun suggest that Gunners boss Unai Emery could have just £40 million to spend in the summer.
That has meant Arsenal are looking at cut-price options for bolstering the squad, and Tottenham’s Alderweireld has piqued their interest. Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for Alderweireld.
There are yet to be any official approaches for Alderweireld, but Spurs expect a host of clubs to come forward to sign the Belgian at the end of the season. While Tottenham are prepared for Alderweireld’s exit this summer, they are yet to give up on convincing the 30-year-old to sign a new contract.
Chelsea’s interest in Alderweireld may be short-lived as the Blues wait to learn their fate in regards to their transfer ban. The Blues could be blocked from signing any players for the next two windows if their appeal against the ban is unsuccessful.
