Arsenal want to land Ajax’s Brazilian winger David Neres this summer but Everton and a host of other clubs are interested in securing his services.
The 22-year-old has been in sublime form for the Dutch club this season with 12 goals and 15 assists so far, while his latest strike came in the 1-1 draw against Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
He also netted in the 4-1 demolition of Real Madrid in the previous round. The winger, who has mainly played on the right but has been used on the left of late, was signed by Ajax from Sao Paulo and made his debut for the Dutch club in February 2017.
The 22-year-old, who has one cap for Brazil, is expected to cost at least £35 million if anyone is going to be successful in luring him away from the Johan Cruyff Arena at the end of the season.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal and Everton are foremost among the clubs chasing his signature, with Borussia Dortmund and PSG also seriously looking at the forward. Liverpool have been strongly linked, while Manchester United and Chelsea have also expressed some interest.
The Brazilian has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, but according to The Daily Telegraph, Arsenal have begun negotiations with Ajax over a potential deal. Neres’s current contract runs until 2022, but is expected to be one of many departures from Ajax this summer. Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona, while Matthijs de Ligt is also the centre of much speculation.
Arsenal are in the market to strengthen the right side of their attack and Neres typically plays on that side, although he is capable of operating on the opposite flank.
In other news, Arsenal’s hopes of signing Christopher Nkunku have been raised after the youngster has refused to commit to a fresh contract offered by PSG.
Arsenal have been on the trails of Christopher Nkunku, and manager Unai Emery is a known admirer since his time as PSG boss. Le Parisien are reporting of a possible boost to the Gunners in their pursuit of Nkunku after the young star has refused to sign a new contract at the Parisian club following months of uncertainty.
