Pochettino rages as Tottenham target to refuse offer in favor of Chelsea move

Tottenham Hotspurs are reportedly eyeing £70million-rated Fiorentina sensation Federico Chiesa. T0he north Londoners haven’t made a single signing during the last two transfer windows. The Sun says Chiesa, who is one of the hottest prospects in Serie A, is firmly on Pochettino’s radar. The winger has bagged an impressive 11 goals this season despite Fiorentina languishing in 10th spot. If Spurs signed Chiesa for his asking price, it would smash their previous club record. They paid £42 million for Davinson Sanchez in 2017 but haven’t coughed up anywhere near that amount of cash since.

Chiesa wants a move to London, but Spurs isn’t his first choice. The 21-year-old was more keen on a move to Chelsea. However, with Maurizio Sarri’s side currently slapped with a transfer ban that doesn’t look likely. Tottenham are in the midst of a mini slump. They were stunned by lowly Southampton on Saturday who secured a 2-1 home win.

Speaking after the clash, Pochettino looked to play down expectations with his side now battling to stay in the top four. “It is so difficult to understand why we changed so much from the first half to the second,” he said. “The second half, we did not take it seriously, I don’t want to criticise too much but when you lose a game that was under control after 45 minutes – we should be 3-0, 4-0 – and finishes in 2-1 defeat, it is difficult to accept.”

“Their first goal was a cross in front of the goal where four players can put the ball out of the stadium. This is our reality. People talk about perceptions but we need to realise if you do not fight with intensity for the Champions League, you will struggle. We are fighting against big sides. We had a big gap, welcome to the reality, we are under pressure to win games. It is a massive challenge for us.”
