PSG held a 2-0 lead from the first leg but blew their advantage away on an incredible evening at Parc des Princes as Manchester United progressed to the quarter-finals with a hard fought 3-1 win . Romelu Lukaku fired the Red Devils into a second-minute lead before Juan Bernat restored parity by latching onto Kylian Mbappe’s cross.
Lukaku, however, doubled his tally after capitalising on a Gianluigi Buffon blunder to give the visitors hope at the break. It looked like PSG would progress by the skin of their teeth before Presnel Kimpembe’s handball was picked up by VAR and a penalty was awarded. Marcus Rashford stepped up to fire home the spot kick and send the away fans into delirium. Di Maria, who spent one unhappy year at Old Trafford, failed to impress for PSG. And United fans brutally mocked him on social media after the final whistle.
One supporter wrote on Twitter: “MISSING PERSONS ALERT. NAME: Angel Di Maria. Last seen: Old Trafford. Doing what?: Starting what he couldn’t finish.” In a reference to the first leg, another fan said: “Di Maria drinking from the beer bottle to remind us PSG are bottlers.” A third commented: “Dear Di Maria. Take your L. This is Manchester United.” While another said: “Shout out to Di Maria, he knew they’d bottle it. What a snake.”
Lukaku was on the front foot straight away, taking less than two minutes to breathe life into a cause which many felt was lost, coolly taking the ball around Gianluigi Buffon and slotting home. He did not let his head drop when the hosts levelled, continuing to put pressure on the hosts – and was rewarded with a second goal when Buffon’s handling gave him a chance. Needed treatment for an apparent ankle issue in the 57th minute – but was soon up and about, showing his commitment to the cause. {source; DailyStar}
