Arsenal fans will hate Emery’s latest comment on the Premier League club’s January transfer activity

A fifth Premier League defeat this season has left coach Unai Emery’s Arsenal in danger of falling even further away from the top four while sixth-placed Manchester United could catch up or even go above the Gunners on Sunday should their result at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur be that favourable for the Red Devils.

Emery has come under fire for leaving out playmaker Mesut Ozil from the matchday squad altogether as Arsenal fell 1- at West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday, with his decision, which comes even when the German is fully fit, casting the 30-year-old’s future at the club in further doubt amid talk of the Gunners being so cash-strapped they cannot afford to bring in players on a permanent basis.

The Gunners have been linked with Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez as well as Nicolas Pepe of Lille and Belgian international Yannick Carrasco who plays in the Chinese Super League. But going by Emery’s comment after the game against West Ham at the London Stadium, Arsenal fans may have to endure not seeing a new face join the club in the January transfer window.

Despite the disappointing result, Emery is not desperate to add to his squad during the January transfer window as he says he is happy with the current crop of players available to him. “We have good players,” he said. “We need to continue to working and taking confidence. The club is working but I am happy with the players. It is a bad result but we continue in our way.”

Apart from Ozil’s uncertain future, midfielder Aaron Ramsey has wrapped up a deal to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus in the summer, while the contracts of veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech and injured England forward Danny Welbeck look unlikely to be renewed.
