Super Eagles Star To continue Past History with Turkish Club

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has revived memories of the long history of relations Fenerbahce of Turkey have had with skippers of the Nigerian national team and a possibility that he could continue the tradition.

Moving back to the days of Uche Okechukwu and Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha at the Istanbul-based club, the Nigerian links with Fenerbahce had in recent time also included Joseph Yobo.

Incidentally, while another Nigerian player, Emmanuel Emenike was also until recently on the cards of Fenerbahce, all the previous three – Uche, Okocha, and Yobo – are all former captains of the Nigerian team. Adding to the drama, Fenerbahce are also said to be in the hunt for yet another Nigerian star of the present dispensation, Odion Jude Ighalo, as they seek to resurrect memories of the glory days they enjoyed with his predecessor in the Eagles’ attack, Emenike this will also look like a tradition for Nigerian captains to feature for the Turkish based side. AFC Ajax is also eyeing sporting Charleroi Victor Osimhen as their top target despite, following the performance from with the club, the young Nigerian will join a host f African, Nigerian players who have featured for the team including Finidi George and Pious Ikedia, which has been the European team that has the highest amount of African players.

Mikel who just ended his contract with Chinese Tianjin Teda late last month would rather use the AFCON as leverage to secure another contract with a European football club, following his age or permanent retirement would emerge as the only option for the ex Nigerian Captain.
