Forgotten Eagles Defender Rejects Contract Extension, Set for Cardiff Move

The Nigerian international has gone forward to disregards new contracts talk promoting his stay with the club and would keen on reactivating his buy-out clause which will see him look for a new destination this month.

Ambrose has been a mainstay in Neil Lennon’s backline since he joined Hibs from Celtic initially on loan in January 2017 before signing a two-year deal on full ownership. English Premier League side, Cardiff City are said to be interested in strengthening their defence with the former Celtic centre-back and are monitoring the situation.

However, The 30-year-old was a target for Turkish outfit Trabzonspor in the summer. Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City – three points clear of the English Premier League relegation zone – are said to have shown an interest in the stopper in recent months. Ambrose was a key player for the Easter Road side last season, making 45 appearances as Neil Lennon’s men finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership. Ambrose’s departure would cap a miserable few days for Hibs gaffer Lennon, who watched his side lose the Edinburgh derby to Hearts thanks to Olly Lee’s winner.

Ambrose started his football career with local club side Kaduna United in 2002, as a youth player before sinning his professional contract in 2006. The 30-year-old also got his first international contract with Israeli side FC Ashdod in 2012. Ambrose has featured for 6 clubs making 361 appearances scoring 23 goals to his name. Ambrose was part of the team who represented Nigeria in the under-20 world cup hosted in Canada and was also invited for the under-23 squad where he only played two games in the 2008 summer Olympics. Ambrose was also selected for the FIFA Confederations cup in 2013 and World Cup in 2014. due to the Nigerian defender losing his place at Celtic, Ambrose has not been invited to the Nigerian national team since then.
