Social media has got pretty strange this year. So far we’ve seen a humble stock image of an egg beat Kylie Jenner’s record of the most-liked photo on Instagram, and before that Netflix movie Bird Box had people running around blindfolded. Now there’s a new trend you’ve probably spotted on your feed: #10YearChallenge, which has been picking up speed on Instagram and Twitter with thousands of people, including plenty of celebrities.

Here’s everything you need to know about the challenge – along with a few of our favourite posts, from Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth through to Jameela Jamil, and a very sweet one from Romeo Beckham.

What is the 10 year challenge?

The 10 year challenge goes by many names: the #HowHardDidAgingHitYou challenge, the aging challenge and #GlowUp challenge, though the trend has picked up the most speed as the 10 year challenge. Participants simply post two images – usually side by side – which were taken at least ten years apart. The overall message? Self love and showing the world how you’ve “glowed up” (or, you know, showing how you haven’t aged a day).

How to do the 10 year challenge on Facebook or Instagram

Participating in the challenge is pretty easy. All you have to do is share two side by side photographs of you ten years apart, then post it to your Facebook/Instagram account with the hashtag #10YearChallenge, though some people just choose to post a single throwback shot.

Funny celebrity glow up challenges

Naturally, a lot of people have been putting their own funny spin on the challenge. We’re looking at you, Amy Schumer, Diplo and Chelsea Handler who faked theirs by subbing in other people (in Schumer’s case it was a shot of Charlize Theoron playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 movie Monster).
Sarah Silverman and Jameela Jamil simply repeated the same photo, whlie other stars seemed to age in reverse, like those Benjamin Buttons Jessica Biel and Trevor Noah.
