Postinor 1 and Postinor 2 work as emergency contraceptives. Commonly called day after pills, they are both meant to prevent the possibility of getting pregnant from unprotected sex. Many people wonder what the difference between Postinor 1 and Postinor 2; is one more effective? Is there a specific reason why they’re named differently? Yes there is!
Postinor 1 is a one-time tablet that’s to be used within the first 72 hrs of unprotected sex. It is effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies in 85 percent of cases but it doesn’t prevent STDs. You shouldn’t use more than four pills in a month or it could cause disruptions in your cycle and lead to delayed or elongated periods.
Just like Postinor 1, It contains levonorgestrel progestogen. The major difference between both pills is that postinor 2 comes in two pills instead of one. The first Postinor 2 tablet should taken immediately after unprotected sex and the second 12 hours after. Postinor 2 tablets can cause serious side effects when both tablets are taken all at once.
Postinor 1 contains one 1.5 mg tablet of levonorgestrel progestogen while Postinor 2 contains two. For Postinor 1, one tablet 12 hours after unprotected sex while Postinor 2 should be taken first immediately after sex then another within 12 hours of taking the first one. According to studies, Postinor 2 has a higher success rate than Postinor 1.
