Fisherman soup is very popular in the riverine communities in Nigeria, The name of the soup explains why as fishing is the major occupation of these people. It is quite similar to pepper soup but cooked with palm oil and without the pepper soup spices.
This soup is popular in Uyo and other towns in Akwa Ibom State. No wonder it is also known as Efik fisherman soup

Preparing this meal takes about 30 minutes, which makes it a must try for all the busy homemakers. It not only saves your time, it is also very nourishing because of the seafood used in preparing it.

INGREDIENTS:
- 1kg Fresh fish
- fresh crabs
- periwinkle
- dried fish or smoked fish (or both)
- stockfish (optional)
- 2kg Fresh Nigerian tiger prawns
- dried crayfish
- pepper
- fresh spinach or pumpkin leaves (ugwu)
- fresh basil leaves
- onions
- palm oil
- salt to taste
- okro
Preparations
chop the onions into large chunks,chop the peppers and fresh basil
add in the fresh fish,shrimps,crabs,boiled dry fish,along with the
chopped onions and peppers and dried crayfish and allow to cook for five minutes.
add sliced okro (optional) and cook the soup for another 5-7 minutes until the okro is cooked
add palm oil and cook for another five minutes.wash and chop the fresh spinach or pumpkin leaves
and add these to the soup,add the salt to taste and allow to cook for
another 5-7
remove from the heat and serve the soup while hot.an accompanying starch( garri or pounded yam is optional)
