Singer Simi has revealed that she once had a gun pointed at her and her friends by a police officer simply because one of them laughed. The singer made this known in reaction to the increased complaint about police brutality in Nigeria.

 

 

Recall that she once narrated her ordeal with the police when she bagged an ambassadorial deal with the Constitutional Rights Awareness and Liberty Initiative.

 

“The last one was pretty dramatic and emotionally traumatic,” the singer said. “This is why it is important for everyone to know their rights. “I have had several human right infringements. Not too long ago, I had a situation with the police force and it wasn’t a pretty picture,” Simi said.

 

 

Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye also known as Simplysimi was born in April 1988. She came into spotlight after she released singles like: Tiff, Love Dont Care and Jamb question. She also did a collabo with Falz on his hit song”Soldier” which has continued to get massive airplay and accolades.

 

 

The 28 year old songstress is a graduate of Mass communication from Covenant University. She wrote her first tune at the age of 10 and started singing at the age of 16. Due to her love for arts, she started singing and dancing as teenager and as a member of the teenage church choir.

 

 

The Ondo state indigene is the only girl in the midst of four boys and the last born of four children; as a result of being the only girl in the midst of four boys, Simi used to be a tomboy while she was growing up. She was brought up by a single mum because her parents were separated when she was only 9.

 

 

Her genre of music is Afro-pop. With a blend of Afro-beat, pop, soul, high-life and has been in the musical industry for about 7 years and counting.

 

 

Her debut album was launched in 2008, produced by Samklef; the album featured songs such as Ara Ile, Ogaju, Iya Temi, to name a few. She started off as gospel with the songs in her debut album.

 

 

In 2011, she met the talented producer/songwriter (Oscar Heman-Ackah) and they both connected musically. However, it wasn’t until 2013 that she officially signed a production contract with Oscar Music Production, after which they both nurtured and created a fresh and genius direction to her sound, style and music in its entirety.

 

 

Her songs are inspired by other peoples stories and experiences, she carves out songs from random day-to-day gists which makes her songs very realistic and interesting.
