Nigerian singer, Duncan Mighty has just copped a new whip for himself and has taken to his Instagram page to share. Duncan Wene Mighty Okechukwu simply known as Duncan Mighty, is a Nigerian musician, singer, and music producer from Obio-Akpor, Rivers State.
Sharing the photo of a Mercedes Benz car that has a customized number plate with his title on it, the singer, who has had quite a good year, wrote,
Which is in reference to the popular hit song by Nigerian singer, Victor Ad, “Wetin We gain”, where a line of the song says, “If we no buy the Benz, wetin we gain?”
Though his musical style demonstrates a high-level of genre versatility, it is also heavily influenced by the sounds and culture of his people as most of his songs are sung in his native Ikwerre dialect of Igbo language.
Wene Mighty released his debut full-length album Koliwater in 2008, which was a commercial success. The 22-track album yielded popular songs such as “Ijeoma”, “Scatter My Dada”, “Ako Na Uche” and drew the attention of many music lovers across the country. His second studio album, Ahamefuna (Legacy), was released in 2010 with a lesser number of 15 tracks than its predecessor.
The album was also very well received by fans and music aficionados. Tracks like “Obianuju” and “Port Harcourt son” brought him international fame and huge fan following. He received three nominations at the 6th Annual NEA Awards in 2011 and won the “Indigenous Artist of the Year”.
In September 2012, Wene Mighty released Footprints, an 18-track album with guest appearances from Timaya, Shaggy, Otuu Sax, Sandaz Black and Wande Coal. He has been honoured by the UN as a peace ambassador
Even if you refuse to agree that Wizkid is responsible for Duncan Mighty’s career renaissance, you can’t deny the fact that “Fake Love” played a massive role in reminding a lot of people, especially other artists, just how great the highlife legend is.
Since the release of that unexpected team-up, it seems every single afropop star in the game wants a little sprinkle of that Duncan Mighty magic, and it has resulted in way too many collaborations to count – some great, some good, and some forgettable.
So, we’ve decided to highlight and rank the eight Duncan Mighty features we’ve gotten this year that simply rise above the rest, not just for the quality of the song itself, but for the superstar’s performance on each of them.
Some of Dunca Mighty hit tracks of 2018 includes:
Starboy — “Fake Love” ft. Wizkid
The song that started it all also happens to be the strongest and most memorable of the bunch, as Duncan Mighty shares the spotlight with Wizkid, afropop’s biggest scene-stealer, and still manages to shine the brightest.
Tiwa Savage — “Lova Lova”
Thanks, in no small part, to Duncan Mighty’s endlessly quotable verse, Tiwa Savage’s fantastic “Lova Lova” manages to not just be one of the highlife star’s best 2018 features, but one of the best afropop songs of the year, period.
DMW — “Aza” ft. Davido and Peruzzi
With what might just be his strongest and most buoyant vocal performance of the year, Duncan Mighty manages to pull off the impossible on DMW’s “Aza”: being the most memorable presence on a song that includes Davido.
Reekado Banks — “Bio Bio”
Granted, Reekado Banks hardly needs any help to make a great song, but the welcome addition of Duncan Mighty’s inimitable voice on “Bio Bio” takes the whole thing up a notch, resulting in one of the Mavin Records star’s most infectious releases in a while.
DJ Xclusive — “Gimme Love”
Xclusive’s “Gimme Love” is the only song on this list that Duncan Mighty gets to carry all by himself, and he is clearly more than up to the task, as he effortlessly delivers one of the year’s very best tracks by a Nigerian DJ.
Ceeza Milli — “Sabi”
Although he isn’t given quite enough room to do as much as we’d have liked, Duncan Mighty’s work on “Sabi”, one of Ceeza Milli’s best-ever songs, is just strong enough to elevate the under-the-radar banger.
Masterkraft — “Low Waist” ft. Flavour
As much as we’d have liked to place Masterkraft’s fantastic “Low Waist” higher up on this list, it would be cheating because, as great as Duncan Mighty is on it, he is handily outshined by the song’s other star: Flavour.
Bracket — “Chinelo”
While Bracket can be very hit or miss with their singles, they were able to save their latest release, “Chinelo”, by enlisting Duncan Mighty, who makes the track infinitely better whenever he takes over from the duo.
