On Monday, some officers of the Nigerian Army shot one of the four daredevil armed robbers who had attacked and dispossessed a bank customer of the sum of about N1.5 million in Bayelsa.
According to reports, the hoodlums trailed the customer who is said to be the brother to the Deputy Governor of the state to an office complex close to his filling station situated at the Opolo axis of the Isaac Boro Expressway in the state capital, Yenagoa.
The soldiers shot one of the armed robbers during the attack.
The criminals who wore masks accosted the victim who was driving into the office complex smashed the back glass of his car and took out a small Ghana Must Go bag which contained the money.
Unluckily for the thieves, however, some officers who were passing by in a military van noticed and immediately opened fire on the fleeing criminals. One of the robbers was hit by a bullet in the stomach and immediately fell to the ground. The other three managed to escape with the cash, sustaining varying injuries of bullet wounds.
All the exit routes around the area are said to have been blocked by policemen and the soldiers to stop the remaining robbers from escaping.
The situation resulted in heavy traffic congestion around that part of the Expressway.
