The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said its Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has degraded an Islamic State of West Africa Province Terrorists’ hideout in Tumbun Zarami, Northern Borno.
The Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in an official statement said the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has degraded an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists’ hideout and neutralized some of their fighters at Tumbun Zarami in the Northern part of Borno State.
He said this was accomplished through air strikes conducted today, 8 April 2019, as part of the ongoing air campaign of Operation Yancin Tafki, which is aimed at flushing out ISWAP elements from islands on the fringes of the Lake Chad.
Daramola said (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, on a routine reconnaissance mission, observed significant presence of ISWAP fighters in the settlement, with several structures and equipment spotted beneath the thick vegetation of the area.
He said, the ATF scrambled two NAF Alpha Jets attacked the location, recording successful strikes on the terrorists’ structures and neutralizing several of their fighters.
He said the NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations to completely degrade the terrorists in the Northeast.
Recall also that about three days ago, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it’s Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole has neutralized some Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists at Tumbun ‘Alpha’, a small settlement about 4km West of Tumbun Allura, on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Northern part of Borno State.
Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said the air strikes were conducted on 5th April 2019, on the heels of credible intelligence reports indicating that some ISWAP leaders and members had assembled for a meeting under a group of trees near a prominent makeshift structure within the settlement.
He said a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) platform dispatched for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) confirmed the presence of several ISWAP fighters within the vicinity of the target.
Daramola said, “accordingly, the ATF scrambled a NAF Alpha Jet to attack the location.”
