More developments have emerged in the incident where a man was killed by some policemen in Lagos State.
The sad incident has been trailed by massive outrage and condemnation by members of the public especially as the sad picture and video clip of scenes of the tragedy and the victim continued to circulate on social media.
According to The Punch, the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday bowed to pressure from the public by publishing the names and photographs of the alleged killers of Kolade Johnson who was gunned down in Mangoro area of Lagos on Sunday.
The police identified the suspects as Inspector Olalekan Ogunyemi and Sergeant Godwin Orji both attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad.
The police said on Twitter, “The men suspected to have carried out the shooting of Kolade Johnson have been apprehended and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures. The CP has revealed their names as (1) Insp Ogunyemi Olalekan and (2) Sgt Godwin Orji attached to Anti Cultism Squad.”
A police team led by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Zubairu Muazu, also paid a condolence visit to the family of Johnson and assured his family that justice would prevail.
Recall that the Lagos State Police Command on Monday said it has arrested the police officers who shot and killed a young man, Kolade Johnson while watching football at Onipetesi, Mangoro area of Agege, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
According to PM News, a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bala Elkana, said on Sunday at about 5.05pm, the command received a distress call that Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway had been blocked by some angry youths who were protesting the shooting of one Kolade Johnson of No.1 Beco street, Onipetesi, Mangoro Bus Stop by a team of policemen from Anti-cultism unit.
“A team of policemen from the Rapid Response Squads and Metro patrol were promptly drafted to the scene. The account of eye witnesses helped in identifying the team which fled the scene immediately after the incident. Members of the team suspected to be involved in the shooting have since been arrested and are currently in Police custody undergoing interrogation. They will be subjected to internal disciplinary procedures, and may be prosecuted in conventional Court if implicated by ongoing investigation,” Elkana said.
He said the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu had called for calm, assuring that justice would prevail in this case. “The Commissioner of Police also condoles with the family, friends and well wishers of Kolade Johnson. The CP has promised to initiate far reaching reforms to help in repositioning the Anti-cultism Squad for effective service delivery, particularly in areas of respect for human rights and proficiency in the use of firearms.

It is expected that the police authority keeps its promise and ensure that the perpetrators of these evil are brought to book to restore public confidence and calm tempers of those who still feel hurt.
