He must have probably planned to meet his daily target by hitting the road at a wee hour of the day but quite oblivion of his abrupt end that was lurking around the corner.

The yet to be identified commercial motorcyclist was found dead while his motorcycle with the registration plate number KAK 678 UM was wrecked beyond recognition at Olu Foam junction, Ilesha-Owo Expressway, Akure.

It was confirmed that the deceased was killed by a hit and run driver at the early hour on Monday and efforts to unravel his identity could not yield any positive result.

 

According to some of the sympathisers and Okada riders at the scene, the deceased did not have a cell phone or identification tag on his body.

“We have searched all his pocket and there is nothing to trace his identity or his park. This would have enabled us know how to contact his relatives.” Said one of the Okada riders.

A source who lives around the area said the accident happened around 3.30am.

“I was awake about 3.30am and suddenly, I just heard ‘gbaa,’ the sound of a vehicle as if it collided with another vehicle. That was all and not until this morning that we got to know what actually happened.”

The body was said to have been picked up by men of the Federal Road Safety Corpse and deposited at the state Hospital.

Speaking on the incident after the body had been removed, the FRSC spokesman in Akure, Antonia Oni advised motorists and Okada riders in the state to be very vigilant on the highway and ensure they move around with their means of identification in case of any emergency.

Mrs. On specifically emphasised on the importance of crash helmet for the commercial motorcyclists saying the deceased could have probably escaped his untimely death if he had used the protective kit.
