21 People Survive Plane Crash
A plane carrying 21 people, including a child, traveling to Boston for a baseball game ran off a runway and burst in flames on Tuesday morning near Houston, but everyone on board survived and only one person suffered a minor injury.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-87 had 18 passengers and three crew members on board when it rolled through a fence and caught fire while trying to take off from the Houston Executive Airport in Brookshire near Katy, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The youngest person on board the plane was a 10-year-old child.
The 172-seat capacity aircraft with two jet engines allegedly crashed after it failed to gain altitude at the end of the runway, careened across Morton Road, coming to a rest in the field just north of the airport, where it caught on fire and just after 10am.
Everyone made it off the plane safely and the only reported injury was a passenger with back pain, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said on Facebook.
