An early morning fire outbreak claimed the lives of six family members, including a new born baby in Hausawa quarters, Tarauni Local Government, Kano State.
Confirming the incident to Daily Trust on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, said the deceased include the father, Isaiah Jonatha, his wife, their three children and a maid.
Abdullahi said the incident was reported to the police around 3:30am and that when the police arrived the scene, all the six members of the family were burnt beyond recognition.
He said a combined team of police and fire service personnel put out the fire.
The police spokesperson, however, said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filling the report.
It was gathered that the fire might have started from the sitting room, thereby preventing the occupants of the house from escaping.
