Czech President Miloš Zeman has been receiving treatment at the Central Military Hospital.

His spokesman, Jiří Ovčáček said that Zeman’s release from the hospital can be expected very soon.

“I am already working, but in any case, I assume that I will be released from the hospital within a few days, I will go to Lány, and there, my workload will increase even more as I will accept candidates for ministers,” Zeman said.

He would like to start working as much as he did before in less than a month, he added.

Zeman also defended the head of his office, Vratislav Mynář, who faced criticism over handling the situation during Zeman’s first days in the hospital. Zeman described Mynář as a great civic officer and a good friend.

Zeman is being treated for his worsening liver disease. He was originally in an intensive care unit. On Monday, Zeman was transferred to a long-term care bed so he could start receiving visitors. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš visited him that day, and on Tuesday, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová arrived to meet with Zeman.
