BREAKING: Wizkid gets two nominations for 2022 Grammy Awards

Nigerian music sensation, Wizkid Ayo Balogun has received two nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards set to hold in January next year.

Wizkid’s 4th studio album, Made in Lagos was released in 2020 and has continued to dominate music charts in Nigeria and abroad. Smash-hit Essence has been regarded as the song of the summer and made its way into the playlist of former US President Barack Obama.

Nate Bargatze, Jon Batiste, BTS, H.E.R., Gayle King, Måneskin, Tayla Parx and Carly Pearce all had the honour of helping to announce the star-studded list of nominees during a live stream on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

During the ceremony, the panel disclosed that Wizkid’s album Made in Lagos has been nominated in the Best Global Music Award category while Essence featuring Tems makes the list of nominees for the Best Global Music Performance category.

Wizkid will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Burna Boy who claimed the award for Best Global Music Album Award at this year’s ceremony.  He also won an award for his part in the video for Beyonce’s Brown-Skinned girl at the 2021 ceremony.

The two nominations for the 2022 edition of the Grammy Awards makes it a total of 4 Grammy nominations for Wizkid since the start of his music career, more than any other Nigerian.
