Legendary Actress Dead As Explosion Rocks Abuja Community

Explosion rocks Abuja community, shakes DSS institute, Dam, others

There was an unimaginable scare in Ushafa community, Abuja on Wednesday, when an explosion occurred near the Department of State Services, DSS, institute and around the exit pipe of the only dam supplying water to the entire FCT residence.

The explosion, which occurred around 2 pm, DAILY POT gathered, shook houses in the community to their foundations, especially those within the Usuma Dam quarters and the DSS institute within the axis.

When DAILY POST visited the area, some farmers, who narrowly escaped being killed by the explosion, pointed to the quarry site around the only radio station in the area, Jordan FM, revealing that the quarry had started full operations despite petitions and queries from different quarters regarding their alleged illegal mining and the danger such will pose to the entire community.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the quarry company whose owners are believed to be powerful individuals in government commenced excavation of the area since early 2020 amid warnings by the DSS and Water Board over its negative impacts on the community and public property within the area. While the DSS is concerned about the security threat of constant blasting of rocks and extreme noise within the area, the FCT Water Board had raised the alarm over the impact of the quarry located just a few meters away from the lower part of the Dam that could trigger unimaginable disaster.

Lower Usuma Dam supplies water to FCT homes, including the presidency.

A source at the DSS institute, who preferred not to be mentioned, termed the location of the quarry as illegal, stating that it threatens the existence of the institute and poses a general security threat to the FCT due to the constant blasting that would be coming from there.

A resident of Usuma Dam quarters, Mr Henry told DAILY POST that his wife and children were the ones at home when the explosion went off. He said the confusion and fear created by the explosion could have led to another disaster. He said, “Many people came out of their houses in fear and were running to the Dam before they were stopped.

Mr. Ayinda Thomas, a businessman and a Gbagi indigene told DAILY POST that different petitions had been submitted over the activities of the illegal miners, alleging that some people leased out the land to the quarry company a few years ago. According to him, they have just a few years before they leave.

Oyedepo to Kwara, Muslims: leave mission schools for owners

Founder of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has advised Muslims to leave Kwara schools for their various owners.

He said they should look for hijab-wearing schools their children can attend.

The Nation had reported that 10 schools were shut down by the Kwara State Government in February over the crisis on the wearing of Hijab (Islamic headscarf) by Muslim female students.

But according to reports, the schools resumed on Monday.

Last week, students and teachers entered the school with violent resistance especially at Baptist Secondary School, Surulere and Cherubim and Seraphim College, Sabo-Oke in Ilorin where Christians and Muslims clashed.

Speaking on the situation in a viral video obtained by The Nation, Oyedepo said: “It is such a nasty development in Kwara state where Muslims are asking their students in our schools to wear Hijab, and the church said “no”

“I have never seen a place in my life where a tenant will be decreeing for the landlord…you know the reason why? We have never shown the world the other side of God.

“God is not a toy. Our God is a consuming fire, let us show them the consuming fire of God, they need to know.

“Leave the schools for the owners, go to your schools, is there any fight? Stop putting fingers in the eyes of others.

“The church is a time-bomb when God turns his back on anybody or any system, that system is grounded.”

“My advice is, leave the schools for the owners, find your schools…men and women can wear hijab there.. Stop putting your fingers in the eyes of others when they are not blind.”

Petrol: NNPC can no long bear N120bn monthly subsidy – MD Kyari warns Nigerians

The Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC, Mele Kyari, says the corporation can no longer bear the over N120 billion monthly subsidy for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Kyari stated this during the weekly media briefing organised by the Presidential Communication Team at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.

According to him, the actual cost of importation and handling charges amounts to N234 per litre, while the government is selling at N162 per litre.

He added that the NNPC absorbs the cost differential, which is recorded in its financial books.

Kyari, however, said that since NNPC could no longer bear the cost, sooner or later, Nigerians would have to pay the actual cost for the commodity.

According to the GMD, the NNPC pays between N100 billion and N120 billion a month to keep the pump price at the current levels.

He said that market forces must be allowed to determine the pump price of petrol in the country.

“Our current consumption (evacuation) from our depots is about 60million litres per day. We are selling at N162 a litre. The current market price is 234, the actual market price today.

“The difference between the two, multiplied by 60million, times thirty, will give you per month.

“This is a simple calculation you do. If you want exact figures from our book, I do not have it from this moment, but it’s between N100billion and N120billion per month.

“We are putting the difference in the books of NNPC, and we cannot continue to bear,’’ he said.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who also spoke at the event, expressed the hope that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) would be passed into law in April.

According to him, frantic efforts are being made by the legislators to complete work on the bill and pass it, in line with the aspirations of critical stakeholders in the petroleum sector.

“The National Assembly has expressed the intent to pass the PIB into law by April 2021. Every effort is being made to support the National Assembly to meet this target,” he said.

AJ shows off body transformation ahead Tyson Fury showdown

Anthony Joshua already looks in sensational shape ahead of his undisputed heavyweight clash with Tyson Fury later this year.

The unified champion has agreed to a staggering £500million deal with Fury, who holds the WBC title, for two eagerly-awaited bouts that are expected to go ahead in 2021.

All that’s left to be sorted is the venue for their first contest, with Saudi Arabia reportedly leading the race to stage it.

Joshua and Fury are likely to lock horns in the summer, meaning they still have around three to four months before they put it all on the line in the biggest British fight of all time

The 31-year-old’s body is looking toned and powerful a few months out from his potential battle with Fury, which could crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades.

Many believe Joshua will be the outsider when he takes on Fury, who is widely considered the No.1 heavyweight on the planet after dethroning WBC champion Deontay Wilder in emphatic fashion last year.

The Gypsy King is also undefeated in his 13-year career, which cannot be said of AJ following his shock loss at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr back in 2019.

Yet, heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte believes Joshua and Fury’s meeting is a 50-50 contest and can’t pick a winner.

“There’s a case for both guys winning this fight, I think. Both guys showed a lot of versatility in their fights,” Whyte, who can reinforce a position as Fury’s WBC mandatory challenger by winning his rematch against Alexander Povetkin this weekend, told AK and Barak.
